Historic marker buoys marina.


Ahoy matey--Florida designated the Miami area's first dock with an historic marker marker /mark·er/ (mahrk´er) something that identifies or that is used to identify.

The marker commemorates the dock formerly known as Baker's Haulover Beach Haulover Beach, Florida, is a mile-and-one-half (2400 m) long beach in Haulover Park a Miami-Dade County Regional Park located between the cities of Sunny Isles Beach and Bal Harbour, in the United States.  Gulf Stream Sport Fishing Docks, where sea captains helped start Florida's deep-sea fishing deep-sea fishing npesca d'alto mare  industry.

The effort to create an historical area was headed by Martha Mary Saconchik-Pytel, the daughter of the late Captain John Saconchik, who is one of the 19 sea captains memorialized on the marker.

In addition to dedicating the site, Miami-Dade Parks Department also broke ground for Phase One of a marina expansion project to be built in the same area.

"These are exciting endeavors for our Department," Miami-Dade Parks' Director Vivian Donnell Rodriguez said at the ceremony. "The historic marker preserves the integrity of this marina's pioneering past and the revitalization re·vi·tal·ize
