Historic San Antonio greets 1930 metalcasters.


Historic San Antonio San Antonio (săn ăntō`nēō, əntōn`), city (1990 pop. 935,933), seat of Bexar co., S central Tex., at the source of the San Antonio River; inc. 1837.  Greets 1930 Metalcasters

For only the second time in its 93-year history, and for the first time in nearly four decades, the American Foundrymen's Society held its annual meeting in the state of Texas. Historic San Antonio was the site of the 93rd AFS A distributed file system for large, widely dispersed Unix and Windows networks from Transarc Corporation, now part of IBM. It is noted for its ease of administration and expandability and stems from Carnegie-Mellon's Andrew File System.

Foundrymen from more than a dozen countries convened in the southern-central Texas city to learn not only about the newest metalcasting technology, but also to sample the Spanish charm of San Antonio. With the contrast of the historic Alamo Alamo

 Tower of the Americas, San Antonio was a fitting site for the 1989 Casting Congress, as more than 120 technical papers explored the basics of the age-old foundry industry and provided a glimpse into the future of advanced metalcasting technology.

In addition to the extensive technical program, this year's Congress, for the first time, featured a tabletop display of the latest foundry equipment, supplies and processes. In all, nearly 140 display tables filled the North Banquet Hall Definition
