These properties generally appreciated by between 10 and 20 percent over the past two years. This year's list, whose value totaled $15.3 billion, exceeded the 1999 totals by 13 percent, while for the top 10 properties, the appreciation was 15 percent. PAUL GETTY Jean Paul Getty (December 15, 1892 – June 6, 1976) was an American industrialist and founder of the Getty Oil Company. Biography Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, into a family already in the petroleum business, he was one of the first people in the world with a CENTER ITS $2.2 billion assessed value once again outpaces the rest of the properties in Los Angeles County, and is almost as lofty as the No. 2 Chevron Refinery and the No. 3 BP Amoco Refinery (formerly Arco Refinery) combined. The property has been the county's most valuable since its first full year of operations in 1998. It has also appreciated by 11 percent over its $1.9 billion valuation in 1999.
