High-reactivity FR agent for PUR & PIR Foams. (Keeping up with Additives).

A new higher-reactivity, brominated flame retardant for polyurethane and polyisocyanurate rigid foams is designed for use with newer blowing agents that are replacing HCFCs. Firemaster 520 from Great Lakes Chemical Corp., Indianapolis, is a 46%-bromine-containing diol that reportedly offers faster reaction rates, lower viscosity, and improved compatibility in water-blown foams. In many applications, a more reactive flame retardant is preferred to reduce cycle time and surface friability (to improve adhesion of the foam to facing sheets).
