High-performance engineering materials provide unique properties.

Therban HNBR, a high-performance elastomer, is said to provide users with a unique range of properties, including excellent ozone and weathering resistance, together with improved resistance to additives in oils, fats and diesel fuels compared to NBR. Therban is also said to demonstrate hot air aging resistance up to at least 150[degrees]C, even when subjected to dynamic pressure and abrasive conditions.

HNBR rubbers like Therban are said to have established themselves particularly well in areas of application in which the qualities of conventional rubbers are no longer sufficient. In addition, the Therban product line is being continuously developed.

The low-viscosity Therban AT, for example, which has a Mooney viscosity of only 39, is said to be particularly suited for use in injection molding applications. This is said to help reduce mixer temperature and enables complex molded profiles and gaskets to be manufactured faster or with significantly lower injection pressures. Therban AT also proves to be beneficial for extrusion and, compared to other Therban grades, the production rate during this process can be increased by up to 40%, according to the company. Thanks to its improved flow properties, surface quality is also said to significantly increase, and, when forming edges, it also is said to produce better results than other HNBR rubbers that are generally more viscous.

Like HNBR, Levapren EVM is ozone and weathering resistant, exhibits a very good level of oil resistance and can be used up to a temperature of 175[degrees]C due to its fully saturated polymer chain, according to the company. The conditions under which the hoses in a car have to function are said to be intensifying. The hoses are exposed to increasing temperatures and a variety of aggressive media. New uses for the elastomer material Levapren, an ethylene vinyl acetate rubber, can therefore be found under-the-hood.
