High-output molds for barrier PET performs.

New developments in preform molds for oriented mono- and multilayer bottles of PET and other materials were announced by Mold & Hot Runner Technology (MHT MHT Multiple-Hypothesis Tracking

), Hochheim, Germany. MHT has developed a new "High Performance" stack mold for PET preforms, called HP-Stack, which is designed to optimize water consumption and maximize heat transfer to trim cycle times up to 30%. HP-Stack uses MHT's new patented post-mold cooling technology.

MHT has also developed a new coinjection mold system for multi-layer preforms to make barrier PET bottles. Molds can be designed to allow conversion from multilayer to monolayer mon·o·lay·er

1. A film or layer one molecule thick formed at the interface between water and either oil or air by a substance such as a partially esterified fatty acid that contains both hydrophobic and hydrophilic groups in the same

In addition, MHT now offers molds and hot-runner systems for materials other than PET. The systems can produce preforms from clarified PP or polylactic acid polylactic acid /poly·lac·tic ac·id/ (-lak´tik) a hydrophobic hydroxy acid polymer that is formed into granules and used as a surgical dressing for dental extraction sites.  (PLA (Programmable Logic Array) A type of programmable logic chip (PLD) that contained arrays of programmable AND and OR gates. PLAs are no longer used. See PLD.
