Thermoformers of blister packaging have a new material option to protect drugs and nutrients from attack by moisture and oxygen. Pentapharm COO SSD/03 rigid film from Klockner Pentaplast of America, Inc., Gordonsville, Va, is a vinyl-COC-PVDC-coated laminate of PVC and Ticona's new Topas cyclo-olefin copolymer (COC). The COC contributes ultra-high barrier while maintaining excellent clarity and machinability, the thermoformability of vinyl, and sealability to PVC and PVDC lidding materials. Versus cold-form foil packaging, the new film reduces package footprint and uses less material.
