High praise for Losat.

Lockheed Martin conducted a successful Developmental Test of its Line-of Sight Anti-tank (Losat) Weapon System in which a Kinetic Energy Missile (Kem) travelled approximately 4000 meters, the longest distance tested to date, before destroying a moving target in an evening test at White Sands Missile Range, NM. Preliminary data indicate all test objectives were achieved. In addition to the long range and nighttime conditions this test demonstrated additional first for the Losat programme. New baseline software was successfully and the missile was conditioned hot. The target vehicles's speed was also greater than the recent DT-1 test in which the missile was conditioned cold. This test was the second in a series of 18 that are under the control of the US Army Test and Evaluation community. The programme has completed five firing tests in 2003. Earlier, the Losat destroyed a moving tank at short range and, in late July, the weapon system destroyed a reinforced urban structure, proving that it can be effective against a variety of targets. A decision concerning Low-Rate Initial Production is expected in fiscal year 2004.
