High costa love; Will there be a double wedding after two marriage proposals for the Brannings?
EASTENDERS Tue, Thur BBC1 Max Branning might have given his brutish big bruv Derek a harsh lesson on the realities of joining "the dad's club" after recently being reunited with his long-lost grown-up daughter Alice, but all his parenting skills are put to the test this week.
But then, the Brannings are nothing if not the archetypal dysfunctional soap family - with bells on. And 2008 was a particularly bad year for Max.
For when he offended his then estranged wife Tanya, she controversially buried him alive in a shallow grave at Easter with the help of lover Sean. Then, in October, his daughter Lauren tried to kill him by running him over.
So imagine what the normal goody-two-shoes Abi might have in store for him should he object to her relationship with Jay. And it won't be her setting a gerbil on him, either.
With Lorna Fitzgerald (Abi), Jo Joyner (Tanya) and Jake Wood (Max) having all picked up well-deserved gongs at the recent British Soap Awards, the Brannings are probably soap's best family. And all their acting skills will be required in a traumatic series of events.
First, Tanya and Max clash when a supplier of vehicles to the car lot goes bust. But their anger turns to passion at long last and Tanya realises she doesn't just want intimacy but their old relationship back - and she proposes to him.
Also, teenage schoolgirl Abi has been awarded a scholarship trip to Costa Rica, but she's reluctant to go because it means leaving boyfriend Jay behind. Following a series of furious family rows, Jay comes up with the solution.
