High River Gold/Buryatzoloto Joint Press Release -- Buryatzoloto Overcomes Impact Of Helicopter Accident At Zun-Holba Mine.

:BRZL) and High River Gold Mines Ltd. report that a tragic helicopter accident occurred on July 1, 1998 at Samarta, a mining camp at one of its operations, the Zun-Holba mine in the East- Sayan mountains Sayan Mountains (säyän`), central Asia, chiefly in S Siberia. The Eastern Sayan Mts. extend c.680 mi (1,090 km) from the lower Yenisei River to the southwest end of Lake Baykal and rise to 11,686 ft (3,562 m) in the Munku-Sardyk; they form  of the Republic of Buryatia.

A Russian MI-8 helicopter with 13 passengers and 4 pilots on board took off from Samarta at approximately 11:15 a.m. and, after having failed to reach a satisfactory altitude, fell to the ground near the take off pad. Among the passengers on board during the accident were 6 officers of Buryatzoloto including: Valery Dmitriev, General Director and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. , Munko Dampilov, Chief geologist, Evgueni Nefedov, Head of the design department and Tatyana Ulanova, an interpreter; representatives of the Russian Project Finance Bank (RPFB) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development European Bank for Reconstruction and Development

At certain music shows they have something called a mosh pit, basically its a fight pit with loads of people bashing each other. , President and CEO, Elizabeth Martin, Chief Financial Officer and Colin Chapman Anthony Colin Bruce Chapman (19 May 1928 - 16 December 1982)[1] was an influential British designer, inventor, and builder in the automotive industry. In 1952 he founded the sports car company Lotus Cars. , Director. Mr. Mosher and Mr. Chapman had been elected to the Board of Directors of Buryatzoloto.

The majority of the passengers and all the pilots were rescued from the helicopter before major explosions of the fuel tanks occurred several minutes after the crash. Three people died in the accident - Colin Chapman, Randa Smine and Evgueni Nefedov.

The rescued passengers, who suffered various degrees of burns and other injuries, were given first aid in Samarta. Within 5 hours after the accident all injured in·jure

 by two helicopters to a hospital in Irkutsk where they were given excellent treatment and care. Valery Dmitriev and Tatyana Ulanova received the most serious burns and remain in the intensive care department of the Irkutsk hospital.

On July 5, 1998 Sergei Stephantsov and Elizabeth Martin who had second degree burns, as well as David Mosher with minor injuries, were transported by air ambulance air ambulance Emergency medicine A helicopter or, less commonly, a fixed wing aircraft, used to evacuate a person who requires immediate medical attention that cannot be provided at his/her current location  to London and placed in a hospital for further treatment. Their condition is now satisfactory and improving rapidly. David Mosher returned to Toronto on July 6th.

Yury Ousovitch of the RPFB was brought to Moscow by air ambulance, and will continue to receive medical treatment of burns that he suffered. Munko Dampilov and Victor Trifonov from Buryatzoloto will remain in hospital in Irkutsk; their condition is satisfactory.

Alexander Balabanov of the RPFB, David Mosher of High River Gold and Alexander Iakovlev of Buryatzoloto are out of the hospital and have already returned to work.

Buryatzoloto expresses its deep condolence to the relatives of those who were lost in the accident and hopes that the injured people will recover completely in the near future. Buryatzoloto would like to take this opportunity to thank Zun-Holba's mine personnel for their quick and decisive action in responding to the accident and caring for the injured in a manner that certainly contributed to the survival and well being of many of those involved. An investigation has been initiated by the authorities to determine the reasons for the helicopter accident.

Although this accident has been extremely unfortunate and painful for everyone involved, Buryatzoloto is determined to overcome the impact of the tragedy and aggressively pursue the Company's corporate objectives during 1998 and beyond. Buryatzoloto has been working diligently with its partners for over four years and has achieved a high degree of success in improving almost every aspect of its operations. Buryatzoloto's partners, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, High River Gold Mines Ltd., the Russian Project Finance Bank and other shareholders have reaffirmed their strong support for the Company under these difficult circumstances. Buryatzoloto will continue its ongoing investment programme to complete the project as designed to the benefit of the shareholders, employees and the Republic of Buryatia.
