Heroix Serves Europe's Largest Food Manufacturing Site; Manufacturing and Logistics IT Magazine Reports How Heroix RoboMon Cuts Expenses at The Jacob's Bakery.

Business/Technology Editors

NEWTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 14, 2000

Heroix Corporation, a leader in eBusiness infrastructure management software, proudly announces ten years of superior service to The Jacob's Bakery in England. In addition, the benefits of the long standing vendor-customer relationship has been recognized by Manufacturing and Logistics IT Magazine (http://www.ibcpub.com/editor.htm) whose Summer 2000 issue reports how Heroix RoboMon cuts both the tedium and expense associated with the manufacturer's IT operations.

JACOB'S OPERATIONS

With 1,200 employees, Jacob's Bakery is the largest food-manufacturing site in Europe, much of it operating 24-by-7. In addition to its famous cream crackers A cream cracker is a flat, usually square savoury biscuit. They are similar to a matzo although typically they are thicker and approximately 8 cm square. They are made from wheat flour and yeast, and are commonly served with cheese or other savoury topping such as Marmite or , Jacob's Bakery at Aintree, England is the home of many well-known brands such as Ritz, Club, Huntley and Palmer, and Peek Frean confections, not to mention Mrs. Peeks Christmas puddings and a wide portfolio of own-label, travel industry, and catering products. Illustrating the size of its operations, Jacob's cream cracker production line itself is so long that its supervisor must bicycle from one end to the other for regular production checks.

To support a 24-by-7 manufacturing operation of this scale, Jacob's IT staff must manage a variety of applications, including the plant's control manufacturing system, daytime order processing, engineering, production planning Production planning

, and the Tardis payroll system, which keeps track of all employee work-hours and attendance.

Traditionally, IT staff's work-hours extended into the night shift to cover production runs. This overtime requirement inflated Jacob's' payroll expenses. Additionally, employees were charged with the tedious duty of dialing-in from home at regular intervals to check on jobs. But that was before Jacob's deployed Heroix RoboMon.

A DECADE OF PERFORMANCE (1990 - 2000)

"We continue to use RoboMon with great success," said Jeff Allanson, MIS Project Manager at The Jacob's Bakery. "We have continued to refine the [RoboMon] rules so that we now rely on RoboMon for:

--Monitoring most aspects of operating system operating system (OS)

Software that controls the operation of a computer, directs the input and output of data, keeps track of files, and controls the processing of computer programs.
 management

--Reporting any batch job Same as batch program.  failures

--Automating the transfer of files between different computer systems

--Automatically submitting overnight and daytime batch jobs

"The product has continued to prove reliable and user-friendly, and certainly justifies its yearly maintenance cost," continued Allanson. "The few times we have used Heroix Technical Support, our issues have been quickly and satisfactorily resolved."

By deploying Heroix RoboMon, Jacob's lessened the overtime requirement and reduced its payroll expenses. And the bakery's use of RoboMon's automated actions reduced job-associated tedium, which contributed to improved overall employee satisfaction at Jacob's.
