Streb encourages her audiences to participate audibly, and they often do. But in the current touring production of Action Heroes, STREB also creates visual drama through characterization A rather long and fancy word for analyzing a system or process and measuring its "characteristics." For example, a Web characterization would yield the number of current sites on the Web, types of sites, annual growth, etc. of the heroes and the small worlds in which they move. STREB then provides a sort of synthesis of it all with pieces such as "Air Swim," "Break Thru," "Squirm" and "Punch the Jump" [see review of Action Heroes by Gigi Berardi on page 88]. Photographer Steven Caras has captured the beauty and clarity of these tableaux, proving once again the power of movement contrasted with stillness. |
