Heartland Communications raises funds by singing the blues.
Heartland Communications Group Inc., Fort Dodge Fort Dodge, city (1990 pop. 25,894), seat of Webster co., central Iowa, on the Des Moines River; settled c.1846; inc. 1869. Fort Clarke was built on the site in 1850 and renamed Fort Dodge the following year. In a mining and agricultural area, Fort Dodge is a rail and distribution center. Industries in the city pack meat and make farm equipment and fertilizers. Gypsum mills are in Fort Dodge, and the outlying region has extensive gypsum beds., Iowa, raised money for Iowa Rock In Prevention with a radio promotion and a blues concert featuring recording artist Ronnie Baker Brooks. Rock in Prevention is a program designed to teach elementary and middle school students refusal skills to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, along with teaching life skills, violence prevention and character education. The event was also designed to raise awareness of National Farm-City Week. "It was great to see folks from the city and the country mingling, raising money for charity and listening to some world-class blues," said Trent Salter, publisher of Iowa Entertainer. Heartland Communications Group publishes numerous magazines for various industries, including Farmers Hot Line hot line (hot lin) telephone assistance for those in need of crisis intervention, generally round-the-clock and staffed by nonprofessionals, with mental health professionals serving as advisors or in a back-up capacity., Acreage and Iowa Entertainer.
