Heartfelt thank you.

I want to say a heartfelt thank you for the article entitled "Sad Journey Home" in the February issue. It is comforting to know that the message that the Mississippi Coast is still hurting and trying to recover is being sent out to the nation. It is devastating to visually be reminded every morning as you leave your house that your hometown and the lives in it have been totally turned upside down.

Schools, churches, homes and businesses ... nothing was sacred to Katrina. That is why our mission as a park and recreation department is even more important--"to improve the quality of life." Not only has our landscape changed, so has our sense of normalcy, our priorities and what is important.

Your article captured the sense of loss and devastation that is present. We will recover, we will adapt, we will continue to positively improve the quality of life for our residents despite the obstacles in our way.
