Neumuenster, Germany, police spokesperson SOENKE HINRICHS, commenting on the arrest of a 17-year-old burglar. During a break-in, the thief stole a digital camera and took pictures of himself at the scene of the crime. When investigators found the discarded camera and photos, they recognized the robber from previous offenses.

"He thanked me for it in front of the police, and then they took me to jail."

San Marcos, Texas, resident DAVE NEWMAN, who jumped into the San Marcos River to rescue a drowning swimmer. Newman had disobeyed orders from emergency personnel to stay out of the water. Once on dry land, he was arrested for interfering with public duties and later released on a $2,000 bail.

"He wanted his day in court, so we're accommodating him."

JERRY LITTLE, assistant prosecutor for the city of Lawrence, Kansas, about the ongoing legal saga of Kansas University Professor Zamir Bavel. Bavel claims that a speeding ticket he received in March 2004 is invalid because Lawrence police officers are not properly trained to use radar guns. Bavel, who has spent $1,000 to fight the $45 ticket, said he will go all the way to the Kansas Supreme Court if necessary.

Nashville mother ANETTE PHARRIS, explaining that she wanted to make her son's 16th birthday party special, so she hired a stripper to perform at it. Pharris and her husband, Landon, were charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, sentenced to two years' probation, and ordered to take parenting classes.
