Every year since 1995, Hearing Aid Awareness Week has happened near the beginning of October, helping to inform the public about a very serious issue. The International Hearing Society started this special week, and it''s also recognized by the Department of Health and Human Services'' National Health Information Center. One important piece of information spread during the week is regarding portable music players. To help prevent hearing loss, experts warn of the dangers of listening to music too loudly with portable MP3 players like iPods. Damage from these can lead to hearing loss at a young age ? and currently there are 25 million people under the age of 65 with some kind of hearing loss. Though this year''s event has already passed, it doesn''t mean you can''t find out more about hearing aids and hearing loss. One company, Sonic Innovations, recently made a release that said: "Not being able to hear is more important than you think." Depression, anxiety and self-esteem issues are all things that have been linked to hearing loss. |
