Health Benefits of Drinking Water-8 Glasses of Water Keeps You Healthy

Water, a precious gift bestowed on us by Mother Nature, forms a major part of our body constitution. In fact, 2/3 of our body weight is water. The very composition of our body is like that blood is 83% water, muscles are 75% water, brain is 74% water and bone is 22% water.

Water, a precious gift bestowed on us by Mother Nature, forms a major part of our body constitution. In fact, 2/3 of our body weight is water. The very composition of our body is like that blood is 83% water, muscles are 75% water, brain is 74% water and bone is 22% water. Water is necessary for the very survival of human beings, as it ensures the smooth functioning of body systems.

Eight ounces of pure water, diluted fruit juice, herb tea, or decaffeinated coffee or tea are counted fully toward the total, although there may be drawbacks to the fruit juice (sugar) and the coffee (chemicals used in the decaffeination process). Some sources suggest that because of the potentially dehydrating effects, black or green tea, caffeinated sodas, and coffee count as 50% water.

The kidneys can''t function properly without enough water. When they don''t work to capacity, some of their load is dumped onto the liver. One of the liver''s primary functions is to metabolize stored fat into usable energy for the body. But if the liver has to do some of the kidney''s work it can''t operate at full throttle. As a result, it metabolizes less fat more fat remains stored in the body and weight loss stops.

Lack of water can lead to dehydration, a condition that occurs when you don''t have enough water in your body to carry on normal functions. Even mild dehydration - as little as a 1 percent to 2 percent loss of your body weight - can sap your energy and make you tired. Dehydration poses a particular health risk for the very young and the very old. Signs and symptoms of dehydration include:
· Excessive thirst
· Fatigue
· Headache
· Dry mouth

External benefits of drinking water

Water not only affects you internally but it has many external benefits. It can be a major contributor to a healthy, fit body. It adds natural moisture to your skin, giving a fresh glow today and helping the aging process tomorrow.

Keeping properly hydrated during exercise allows you to have a better, more productive workout. When your workouts are better, you feel and look better too.

Drinking lots of water is widely thought to help improve kidney function and boost the clearance of toxins. One way it could do this, Goldfarb says, is by a mechanism called glomerular filtration, a measure of the kidney''s ability to filter and remove waste products.

Water relaxes the pelvic floor muscles.
Water minimizes pain so effectively that for most women other pain control methods are no longer needed.
Water stimulates the touch and temperature nerve fibers in the skin. It blocks impulses from the pain fibers, known as the Gate Theory of Pain.

More water intake leads to more toxin excretion. "The kidneys clear toxins. This is what the kidneys do. They do it very effectively. And they do it independently of how much water you take in. when you take in a lot of water, all you do is put out more urine but not more toxins in the urine."
