 healed superficial burns more effectively and quickly than a standard treatment of silver sulfadiazine. Honey deters infection, stimulates the formation of new blood capillaries and connective tissues, and is anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial.

Most honeys derive their antibacterial effects from hydrogen peroxide, produced by an enzyme naturally present in honey.

Honey also contains a horde of antioxidants including the flavonoid pinocembrin. As for antioxidant content, the darker the better.

NOTE: Honey, corn syrup, and similar natural sweeteners are a potentially acute threat to infants. An infant's digestive juices are non-acidic, and ingestion ingestion /in·ges·tion/ (-chun) the taking of food, drugs, etc., into the body by mouth.
