He liked kinky sex and prostitutes. He tied me to the bed and raped me. That night, he hit me. The knife just went in to him. I didn't think I had hurt him much; FORMER ROYAL AIDE TELLS OF NIGHT LOVER DIED.

Byline: DON MACKAY and CHARLIE BAIN

FORMER royal aide Jane Andrews told yesterday of her life of violence and kinky sex with the lover she is accused of stabbing to death.

She said Tommy Cressman liked her to dress up for sex and tie her to the bed.

She discovered he had been using prostitutes, swapped dirty emails with another woman and read fetish magazines called Desire and Stiletto Heel.

And she claimed that on the morning of the day he died Mr Cressman tied her to the bed, put a pillow over her head and raped her.

Andrews, 34, former dresser to the Duchess of York, entered the witness box on the sixth day of the trial to deny murdering millionaire Mr Cressman, 39, after he refused to marry her.

She admitted hitting him with a cricket bat and holding the 8inch kitchen knife as they struggled - but denied deliberately stabbing him.

And in taped police interviews the jury heard her say: "He just came at me. I had the knife in my hand and that was it. It must have just gone into him ... I didn't think I had hurt him that much."

Seconds after she took the oath defence counsel John Kelsey Fry QC asked if she hit Mr Cressman with the bat. Andrews replied quietly: "Yes."

Mr Kelsey Fry said Mr Cressman had a stab wound to the chest. "Did you take in hand the knife that caused that wound?" Andrews: "Yes."

Mr Kelsey Fry: "Did you intend Thomas Cressman to be stabbed with that knife?" Andrews: "No."

Andrews said she had been sexually abused as an eight-year-old but did not wish to say by whom, except that "it was not parental".

She told the Old Bailey jury about Mr Cressman's alleged sexual traits. She said: "He used to want to have anal sex with me and wanted me to dress up."

Mr Kelsey Fry: "Are we talking about sexy or kinky clothing?" Andrews: "Kinky clothing.

"He liked to tie me up with his ties to the bed."

She went on: "He was contacting prostitutes and I found out. I found a lot of lists and they suggested what he would probably do and the costs. He used to come back into the office in the afternoon and call these prostitutes and masturbate."

The court heard that police found the two contact magazines, one in Mr Cressman's bedside table and one in his study.

Andrews said she read an email on his home computer which she found out was to a woman called Deborah in Las Vegas.

It talked of "maids' outfits, stockings and black high heels".

Part of it read: "You moved further into the room ... You tied the ties to both wrists and threw the ends over the fourposter bed."

A return email from Deborah said: "Have you booted your girlfriend or has she become like your favourite recliner you just can't seem to get rid of?"

Mr Cressman replied: "Things have been a little stressed here. Her indoors somehow found the email I sent you and the proverbial hit the fan.

"Luckily she came to all the wrong conclusions and thought I'd sent it to a magazine."

He ended by saying he was looking forward to "hooking up" with her in October and "letting off some steam". Asked what Mr Cressman said when she confronted him about the the emails, Andrews said: "He said I was being silly. It was just a bit of fun, one of his fetishes.

"He said there was nothing in it. He just used to get kicks out of it, sharing each other's sexual fantasies."

Andrews claimed Mr Cressman starting using violence against her after she moved into his home in Fulham, west London, in 1998.

"He'd be a wonderful person, very much so, about 95 per cent of the time. But under the surface not all was smooth. I would push him about the future and he'd react against that. Most of the time it was rowing but on occasions he'd hit me."

Once they argued and, she said: "He struck me on the face. But I didn't tell anyone at the time."

In November 1999 they had rowed on the stairs. She ran down and he came after her. "He pushed me and I landed on my spine. I had to be taken to hospital for treatment."

On the morning of the fatal row, she said: "He put a pillow over my head and tied me to the bed with my dressing gown cord.

"I was face down and he had his full weight on top of me. He tied my left wrist with the cord, then anally raped me."

Asked why she did not tell police, Andrews fought back tears and said: "Because I was so ashamed and so embarrassed. I just couldn't talk about it."

Andrews told in taped police interviews how she and Mr Cressman fought in the bedroom that night.

She said he demanded sex. "I tried to stop him being so horrible but he grabbed me. I said I didn't want it.

"He was just rude and so horrible. I didn't want him to hurt me.

"I went downstairs to the living room and got the cricket bat and just put it by the bed so he wouldn't hurt me any more."

Later Mr Cressman woke up and continued an argument over her, tearing a favourite wall poster.

Sobbing, she said: "He went on about the poster and how horrible I was and he kicked me in the back with his knee.

"I got up and went back downstairs. I went to the kitchen and picked up one of the knives. I got back into bed and laid it by the bed.

"Eventually I got back to sleep and I woke up and he was hitting me. I got out of bed and I picked up the bat and I just hit him.

"He was lashing out at me. He was grabbing my hair. He was pulling my hair out and he tried to kick me.

"I just grabbed the knife and he came at me. I didn't do anything. He just came at me. He punched me on the back of the head.

"It was dark and I just remember him falling down. I was scared. Eventually I saw I had blood on me. I was so cold." In another interview Andrews said she was standing naked by the bed as Mr Cressman knelt in the middle.

She hit him once with the cricket bat before grabbing the knife.

"He just lashed out at me. He just started hitting me. He was kneeling there and grabbing my hair and started to hammer me. I said, 'Don't hurt me'.

"I just stood there because I was so frightened. We just struggled. It was so dark.

"He just came at me. I had the knife in my hand and that was it. It must have just gone into him.

"I didn't deliberately put it into him. It just went into him."

She added: "He must have just fell against me." Mr Cressman was found slumped, wearing only boxer shorts and a watch, against the bloodsoaked bed.

Three days later Andrews was found in her car after taking an overdose of 30 to 40 sleeping pills.

Questioned by Mr Kelsey Fry she agreed she was devoted to Mr Cressman - "very much so".

Mr Kelsey Fry: "Is it fair to say you wished to spend the rest of your life with him?" Andrews: "Yes."

They had been looking at houses in the Cotswolds the weekend before flying off to holiday with Mr Cressman's mother near Nice.

"Everyone was calling us Mr and Mrs Cressman and he joked about it, saying, 'I really like the sound of that'. I said I wanted to get married in about a year or so and he said, 'You do want to get married and have children?' and I said yes."

The court heard that Mr Cressman gave Andrews a postcard August last year to celebrate their second anniversary together.

It said: "Janie, thank you for a wonderful two years. Here's to the next. All my love Tommie xxx."

But Andrews told police: "He used to dangle a carrot in front of me and pull the strings.

"He would be nice one minute and then pull me backwards and forwards. I was very frightened."

The trial continues.
