In our February 7 issue, we challenged you to locate all the places that Mapman--a.k.a. Jim McMahon--visited on a recent trip. To win, you had to complete two tasks: Answer all eight questions correctly, and draw a map of the final destination.

This year, we received nearly 8,000 entries from 47 states. About half of you got all eight answers right.

JS Talks With Mapman

JS: Where did you go, Mapman?

Mapman: I went to Goteborg, Sweden.

JS: Tell us about it.

Mapman: Goteborg is a port city that is located on Sweden's west coast. When I arrived there on a Friday night in late June, it was still daylight. My taxi driver taxi driver ntaxista m/f

JS: Tell us about the student entries.

Mapman: Some entries focused on the products that Sweden manufactures, while others portrayed Sweden's cultural life. Swedish fish Swedish Fish are a type of quasi-gummi chewy candies shaped like fish. Originally colored red with a flavor unique to the candy, they are now also available in orange, yellow and green; the flavor varies with color. The fish come in two different sizes. , candy, and meatballs were popular themes on many maps. A couple of maps even featured Swedish reindeer, an animal whose meat many Swedes enjoy. At a Goteborg smorgasbord, a buffet of various foods and dishes, I skipped the Swedish delicacy.

I want to thank all the students and teachers for making this year's contest a memorable one.
