He's So Money.

What can you get for a quarter-billion dollars these days? A baseball player, for one thing. The Texas Rangers Texas Rangers, mounted fighting force organized (1835) during the Texas Revolution. During the republic they became established as the guardians of the Texas frontier, particularly against Native Americans. The Texas Rangers at first consisted of three companies of 25 men each. last month signed All-Star shortstop Alex Rodriguez to a 10-year, $252 million contract, the biggest ever in sports. Here's what else they could have bought for $250 million.

1 PRESIDENTIAL PLANE, 2 FIGHTER JETS The Rangers could be flying on Air Force One ($181 million), escorted by two F-15s ($28 million each), with peanuts all around.

1 CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL A $250 million, high-tech hospital is planned for Pittsburgh. Nice idea, but who's going to buy a Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh jersey?

1 POP STAR That amount is singer-songwriter Elton John's estimated net worth. He can belt out a national anthem, but can he hit one out of the park?

2 STAR WARS MOVIES George Lucas budgeted Episode I and II at $115 million each, which still leaves $20 million for Episode III: A-Rod Strikes Out.

1 HOPE DIAMOND The walnut-sized blue jewel is a popular exhibit at the Smithsonian. The Rangers may want to consider a glass case for Rodriquez, too.

1 BASEBALL TEAM The Rangers organization, stadium included, was itself sold in 1997 for $250 million, which may pay off if Rodriquez makes it a champion.
