Stonebrae School is located on a 12-acre site in the Hayward hills and includes a state-of-the art multi-purpose gymnasium, computer labs, learning gardens, two playing fields and modern facilities to accommodate up to 650 students in grades K-6. "This is a day of celebration The Day of Celebration was a gathering of 45,000 Latter-Day Saint youth which took place on July 16, 2005 to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the restoration of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. for the city of Hayward and our public schools," said Dr. Dale Vigil, superintendent, HUSD. Facts About Stonebrae Elementary School * On August 29, 2006, Stonebrae School opened to 503 students in grades K-6. There are currently 22 teachers. * Nearly two-thirds of Stonebrae's students have transferred from the recently closed Highland Elementary School; other students have come from the 15 other elementary schools in the city of Hayward, including private schools. The courtyard encourages outdoor learning in the science and art gardens. * In addition to the core curriculum, Stonebrae School emphasizes technology. Each classroom includes wireless Internet access. The school also utilizes Computers on Wheels (COWs), allowing teachers to incorporate technology in the delivery of lessons in the classroom, rather than a computer lab. Stonebrae has a staffed, high-tech Library/Media Center equipped with wireless laptops that are used in the library and also can be checked-out for classroom use. * The new school's principal is Lisa Nolting. Previously, Lisa was principal at Harder Elementary for more than three years. Lisa has worked in education for 28 years, including 19 years with HUSD. * The center of the campus is anchored by a multi-purpose gymnasium for arts, entertainment and education.
