," Helen Hayes purchased Pretty Penny with her playwright-screenwriter husband, Charles MacArthur Charles MacArthur (b. November 5 1895, Scranton, Pennsylvania; d. April 21 1956, New York City) was an American playwright and screenwriter. The son of to a Baptist minister, he is best known for his plays with Ben Hecht, Twentieth Century and The Front Page , in the mid 1930s. In her autobiography, "Helen Hayes-My Life in Three Acts," Ms. Hayes mentions her home along the Hudson River Hudson River
