The rubber was made by adding additives to EPDM EPDM Ethylene-Propylene-Diene-Monomer EPDM Enterprise Product Data Management EPDM Ethylene Propylene Dimonomer (industrial/commercial piping/plumbing components) EPDM Engineering Product Data Management copolymers such as ethylene, propylene propylene /pro·pyl·ene/ (pro´pi-len) a gaseous hydrocarbon, CH3CHdbondCH2. propylene glycol a colorless viscous liquid used as a humectant and solvent in pharmaceutical preparations. and dien to form a highly durable rubber material that can maintain its elastic function with a radiation absorption dose of over 9MGy. Feasibility tests of the rubber as a connector seal for proton accelerator cooling water-pipe and as an airproof seal for vacuum apparati are currently underway.
