Hawke, Rosanne & Lenore Penner (text) Michelle Mackintosh (illus.): The Wish Giver.
Layla is lonely, she doesn't have any friends. Then she sees a falling star and meets The Wish Giver who has fallen from his star. He can't return to his star unless someone wishes it for him. Layla does so and in the process learns how to find her own friends and the meaning of friendship.
A lovely book with soft pastel illustrations, including a game of soccer. The story line is simple and easy to read to a group of children. The text shows Hawke's considerable talent as a storyteller with its well paced and understated message. Recommended. LF
