"The majority of our new systems are at a stage where they could have been deployed by early February, which was our original objective," said Mike Ruley, Hawaiian Telcom's chief executive officer. "We've determined that a few of the systems would benefit from additional development time. We think it's a prudent decision to extend backoffice support, and it's based on our goal of reducing any adverse customer impact as much as possible during our final transition off of Verizon's backoffice systems."

An option to extend support is part of the contract under which Verizon sold assets in Hawaii.
