Havens Wine Cellars today announced it will release its 1999 Merlot Reserve and 1999 Bourriquot wines on September 1. Praised for complex aromas Aromas may refer to:

, concentrated mid-palate, and balance in the style of Bordeaux's finest red wines, Havens 1999 Reserve Merlot and Bourriquot wines are distinguished by their exclusive use of grapes from the cool Carneros region of Napa Valley since 1985. Carneros has become recognized as North America's ideal climate and terroir Terroir (/tεʀwaʀ/ in French) was originally a French term in wine and coffee used to denote the special characteristics that geography bestowed upon them.  for Merlot grapes, and Havens was the first producer to focus on Carneros for its Merlot, Syrah, and Cabernet Franc Cabernet Franc is one of the major varieties of red wine grape in Bordeaux. It is mostly grown for blending with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in the Bordeaux style, but is also vinified alone, particularly in Chinon in the Loire.  wines.

1999 Merlot Reserve

At $32 a bottle, Havens Merlot Reserve is considered among the most reasonably priced of the classically bred, high-end Merlots that often garner up to $100. With a full three years' aging before release, the 1999 Merlot Reserve is a classic of Havens style: dark plummy plum·my

fruit, a subtle spice, and a definite whiff of fine chocolate materialize in the glass.

Production for the '99 Merlot Reserve is 2,500 cases.

1999 Bourriquot

Havens 1999 Bourriquot (boo-ree-ko) blends 66.5 percent Cabernet Franc with 33.5 percent Merlot. The Bourriquot is more finely textured, somewhat more elegant than the explosive flavors of the Merlot Reserve. It offers the same chocolate, but Franc characteristics prevail: fine cigar-box cedar ci·gar-box cedar

The front part, known as the hard palate, formed by the upper maxillary bones and the palatine bones, separates the mouth from the nasal cavity. , Havens Bourriquot again offers an outstanding lingering inner-mouth perfume in the '99 release.

Priced at $35 a bottle, together with the Reserve Merlot, it is among the most reasonably priced wines in its category. Production of Bourriquot is 1,800 cases.

Bourriquot is unique in California, a wine based on Carneros Cabernet Franc and Carneros Merlot that attempts to celebrate those grapes' native character, not cover it. Introduced in 1992, Bourriquot, a Bordelaise Noun 1. bordelaise - brown sauce with beef marrow and red wine
