Have job, will travel.

How long are you willing to travel to get to work? Can you spend an hour behind the wheel--or is a 10-minute bus ride more your speed?

Supersized commutes--more than an hour each way--are becoming more commonplace. "Extreme commuters"--those who commute 90 minutes or more each way--are the fastest-growing group of daily travelers. Often these commuters have migrated farther away from their jobs in cities to find quality of life and affordable housing. In many places, as roads have become more congested with commuters, the morning rat race has slowed to a crawl.

Getting to work has never taken longer, according to the latest data released by the U.S. Census Bureau. Here's a look at commutes by the numbers.

* 100 hours--average time spent commuting to work per year

* 80 hours--average vacation time per year

* 24.3 minutes--average commuting time, one way

* 38.3 minutes--average commuting time in New York City
