Haunting sounds.


The Catholic chapel opposite the front door of the conference centre is the setting for a recital by two remarkable musicians--Markus Stockhausen from Germany and Tara Bouman Clarinettist Tara Bouman (b. 1970, Leiden, Holland) studied the clarinet at the conservatories of Amsterdam and Rotterdam with Walter Boeijkens and Piet Honingh. She plays the corno di bassetto or basset horn, clarinet and bass clarinet.  from the Netherlands. Markus plays the flugelhorn, the silver trumpet and the piccolo trumpet The smallest of the trumpet family is the piccolo trumpet ("picc" in trumpeter slang). The most common of these are built to play in both B-flat and A, with separate leadpipes for each key. ; Tara the clarinet clarinet, musical wind instrument of cylindrical bore employing a single reed. The clarinet family comprises all single-reed instruments, including the saxophone. The predecessor of the modern clarinet was the simpler chalumeau, which J. C. , bass clarinet and the basset horn. (No--not all at once.) They play their own compositions and improvisations. The close blending of the haunting sounds, that echo around the high ceiling of the chapel, reflects the closeness of their relationship--they are husband and wife. Their young son in the front pew earns the occasional wink from his mother. As we leave he is at a table, selling their CDs. A harmonious family.
