Hats off to 'can do' ladies.

"The PWC honoree is a role model for the next generation--she is the 'can do' person who receives the acknowledgement and applause of the industry," said PWC President Lenore Janis as she introduced the remarkable group of honorees at PWC's annual Salute to Women of Achievement luncheon held May 6th at The Yale Club The Yale Club may be:

Guest of Honor, New York City Comptroller The Office of Comptroller of New York City is the chief fiscal officer and chief auditing officer of the city. The comptroller is elected, citywide, to a four-year term and can hold office for two consecutive terms.  William C. Thompson, Jr., opened the program remarking on the city's lack of an incentive program for participation by women and minority-owned businesses: "New York City New York City: see New York, city.

"Minority firms, he noted, receive about $4 million a year, about 2 to 3% in contracting and procurement "from a City that spent more than $8.6 billion for construction goods and services In economics, economic output is divided into physical goods and intangible services. He spoke of "the huge advances" women have made and referred to the 30% increase of construction companies owned by women since 1997.

Exemplary of the successful woman was the first honoree, for Professional Achievement, Linda Christensen, senior vice president and general counsel for Tishman Realty & Construction Co., Inc. Affiliates. Christensen, a PWC board member, guides the legal requirements of the Tishman organization.

Christensen paid tribute to John L. Tishman, chairman and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Tishman Realty & Construction, "a constant role model of how to conduct oneself in business and in life."

Tishman Senior Vice President Richard Kielar quoted several real estate icons in his introduction of Lois Weiss, New York Post The New York Post is the 13th-oldest newspaper published in the United States and the oldest to have been published continually as a daily.[3] Since 1976, it has been owned by Australian-born billionaire Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation and is one of the 10  journalist and other leading real estate publications: "[She] has a great instinct for real estate. "You need to be proud, and be sure the work you do is as good as it can be, Weiss said. "The idea is to give back to the earth with beauty and gorgeous buildings."

As program manager for the multimillion dollar, award-winning Supplier Diversity program of the NY Power Authority, Public Service Achievement honoree Debra J. White is responsible for the Authority's participation and outreach efforts to ensure that minority and women-owned businesses actively and successfully take part in NYPA's procurement of Roods and services, construction contracts and professional services. White's efforts, including hosting NYPA's annual purchasing exchanges, result in over $375 million in business.

White endorsed PWC as "a very valuable and necessary organization," and suggested an alternative--truly representative--name, "Powerful Women in Construction."

A recent PWC honoree, Beth Barton, manager of construction services for Pfizer Inc., presented White's award.

Heidi L. Blau, AIA AIA - Application Integration Architecture , Professional Achievement honoree, joined Fox & Fowle Architects in 2002. With 20 years of experience, she is working on the expansion of the public library in Albertson, Long Island; the renovation of Gottesman Libraries at Teacher's College; and a new child care center on the site of St. Monica's Church on the campus of York College.

"Women have made strides in architecture and construction in the past 20 years," said Blau.
