A true crime story told in a straightforward unembellished style, this account involves the impact of historical oppression on the Irish psyche Psyche (sī`kē), in Greek mythology, personification of the human soul. She was so lovely that Eros (Cupid), the god of love, fell in love with her.  and the intrigues of the Irish Republican Army Irish Republican Army (IRA), nationalist organization devoted to the integration of Ireland as a complete and independent unit. Organized by Michael Collins from remnants of rebel units dispersed after the Easter Rebellion in 1916 (see Ireland), it was composed of . Hart tells the tale of art theft initiated in Ireland and how it became entangled en·tan·gle

Two of the heists included the most valuable Vermeer in existence. The stings concocted to retrieve the paintings involved law enforcement agents from three different countries. An enjoyable aspect to this story is what can be gleaned about art and its value. The method used by 17th-century painters to achieve their photo-perfect perspective was discovered by a Danish museum conservator conservator n. a guardian and protector appointed by a judge to protect and manage the financial affairs and/or the person's daily life due to physical or mental limitations or old age.  because of the opportunity to study the stolen Vermeer on its way back to Ireland's National Gallery.
