Harris Supplies 300th Microwave Radio Link to Telet.

:HRS), a global leader in microwave equipment and services, announced today that it has supplied a total of 300 radio links to date to Telet, a B-band mobile telephone services provider in the state of Rio Grande do Sul Rio Grande do Sul (rē` grän`dĭ th s , Brazil. Harris and Telet have a longstanding partnership and have been working together in Brazil for more than two years.

"The partnership with Harris is very important to us since we know that we can count on Harris to supply the products and services within our established schedule and to Telet's quality specifications," said Jorge de Angelis, Telet's transmission manager.

The Harris equipment includes MicroStar(R) PDH PDH - Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy  radios for 7, 15, 18 and 23 GHz frequencies and MegaStar(R) SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) The European counterpart to SONET. See SONET.

 network management system, which monitors the entire network of Harris radios and will, in the future, monitor the complete Telet transmission network. With this expansion, Telet will provide broader mobile telephone service coverage throughout the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Telet projects 850,000 subscribers by the end of the year, a 56 percent increase over the current subscriber base of 545,000. Currently, Telet covers more than 80 cities in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, including Porto Alegre, Caxias do Sul Caxias do Sul (kəshē`əsh d sl), city (1991 pop. 290,925), Rio Grande do Sul state, S Brazil. , Pelotas Pelotas (pəlô`təsh), city (1991 pop. 291,100), Rio Grande do Sul state, S Brazil, an inland port on the São Gonçalo canal.  and Santa Maria.
