The FTI program will improve operations functions at more than 5,000 FAA facilities nationwide while reducing operating costs, enhancing network security, and improving telecommunications service performance, reliability, and quality.

The division's Harris NetBoss(TM) network management system is a key component of the 15-year, $1.7 billion FTI contract. Harris' Government Communications Systems Division was awarded the FTI contract in July 2002 and will act as systems integrator and prime contractor. The NSD network management integration portion of the contract is valued at approximately $2 million.

Under terms of the contract, Harris NSD will provide all software integration services related to the FTI's Harris NetBoss system, including connectivity between all the devices that will be located at the two network operations centers and the 21 Air Route Traffic Control Center The principal facility exercising en route control of aircraft operating under instrument flight rules within its area of jurisdiction. Approximately 26 such centers cover the United States and its possessions. Each has a communication capability to adjacent centers.  (ARTCC ARTCC Air Route Traffic Control Center ) sites.

The integrated system supports wireless, wireline, and Internet services and provides a comprehensive set of capabilities, including network management, performance management, service activation, electronic bonding, and billing mediation.
