The UCAR system will be capable of high levels of autonomy during missions, requiring human intervention only by exception. It will be managed by existing air and ground command and control platforms such as the U.S. Army's RAH-66 Comanche, the Airborne Command and Control System, and ground-based command and control vehicles. Harris is a key avionics systems supplier to the RAH-66 Comanche program, and a leader in communications and situation awareness technologies.

) to conduct a 12-month concept development study for UCAR. Following the 12-month concept development phase, two of the four competing teams will be selected for a preliminary design phase, to be followed by actual development of prototype vehicles. The UCAR system is expected to be fielded in the post-2010 timeframe as an integral element of the Objective Force.
