Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), a leading provider of network security solutions, today released an upgraded version of its Security Threat Avoidance Technology (STAT(R)) Analyzer vulnerability assessment tool that adds an outside scanning function - making this tool the first-of-its-kind in the industry at identifying both internal and external security vulnerabilities.

STAT Analyzer v. 3.0 now adds support for Nessus, the popular scanning tool developed by Renaud Deraison, creating the most comprehensive vulnerability assessment process available.

STAT Analyzer works with Nessus through its publicly available Nessus Transfer Protocol. This allows STAT Analyzer to communicate directly with the Nessus daemon. The Nessus server may be located inside or outside the firewall.

For existing Nessus users, the new solution will significantly expand their reporting capabilities, allowing them to tailor their assessment reports to meet specific requirements. STAT Analyzer selects and runs the appropriate Nessus plug-ins based on the desired security policy. Reports can be generated with very detailed information, or in summary form for top-level executive presentations. Reports reflect the data obtained from Nessus as well as any of the other tools supported by STAT Analyzer. These include the standards WhatsUp Gold(R), Nmap, STAT Scanner, and, optionally, ISS Internet Scanner(TM) and CyberCop Scanner(R).
