:HRS) announced today that it was awarded a contract by Lockheed Martin Information Systems, Orlando, Florida, to support the development of the Common Training Instrumentation Architecture (CTIA (1) See CompTIA.

) for all U.S. Army Live Training Ranges. Options are expected to increase the value of the program for Harris to $3 million over the 30-month contract. CTIA will establish a common instrumentation and communications architecture for the Army's training ranges, resulting in more realistic training for its soldiers as well as decreasing the costs of training.

Under terms of the Lockheed Martin contract, Harris will provide a common communications architecture for the ranges, which include the Army's Maneuver Combat Training Centers (MCTC MCTC Maryland Correctional Training Center

) facilities. Lockheed Martin won the CTIA task order under the Live Training Domain portion of the Army's STRICOM Omnibus Contract.

The CTIA program will evolve into an open-architecture, component-based product line that defines the key interfaces for the Army's range training systems communications. It will employ widely used industry protocols for communications and data transmission, resulting in affordable interoperability, supportability and reliability. CTIA also will facilitate the insertion of new technology as it becomes available.
