Harris Corporation/BAE SYSTEMS TCDL Team Successfully Demonstrates Next-Generation Communications Network for U.S. Navy.

Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) and BAE SYSTEMS, Inc., representing a world-leading partnership in the development of wideband Tactical Common Data Link (TCDL) solutions, today announced that they have successfully completed the TCDL Extended Littoral Battlespace (ELB) Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration (ACTD) for the U.S. Navy's Wide Area Relay Network (WARNET). A true force multiplier, TCDL is a high-bandwidth, interoperable, Ku-band digital communications link that transmits and receives command and control, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance data between airborne platforms and their associated ground- and ship-based terminals. The Harris/BAE SYSTEMS team announced the awarded of the $2.6 million contract in March of 2000.

The U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps conducted the Major System Demonstration II (MSD II) in June 2001, culminating the second phase of ELB ACTD. During the MSD II exercise, the Harris/BAE SYSTEMS team successfully demonstrated ship-to-air-to-surface communications connectivity at beyond-line-of-sight ranges using its co-developed TCDL relay capability. The team also demonstrated fully symmetric, 10.71 megabits per second communications throughput, enabling the transfer of large amounts of data across the battlespace at rates significantly faster than current capabilities and technology allow.
