SHORES, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 2, 1998--Harris Corporation's Farinon Division, a world leader in the manufacture and supply of microwave radio equipment and services, today announced that it has signed a contract with LibanCell, one of Lebanon's two cellular operators, to expand its extensive network in the Middle East.

LibanCell expects to grow its capacity to accommodate 250,000 subscribers by using MicroStar Plus 38 GHz flat antenna radios to link the network's existing microcells. Under the terms of the agreement LibanCell may request additional radios in 1999.

"Harris was an excellent choice for LibanCell because of its ability to provide and install the technology we need to grow our network quickly," said Hussein Rifai, general manager of LibanCell. Farinon Division will also provide LibanCell with program management and transmission engineering support via Vega Systems throughout and following the project.

The MicroStar Plus integrated RF unit and flat antenna represents the single largest advance in microwave radio architecture of the `90s. A compact, lightweight, quick and easily installed design has been the focus of this product with the additional benefits of very low power consumption and high reliability for an outdoor unit that does not have the obvious appearance of a microwave radio. With proven superior specifications, frequency discrimination, and independence of capacity (1, 2, 4, 8 or 16E1), the MicroStar Plus is the ideal choice for new and fast growing cellular and PCS (1) (Personal Communications Services) Refers to wireless services that emerged after the U.S. government auctioned commercial licenses in 1994 and 1995.
