The co-authors are father and daughter. The father, an established author, and the daughter, editor of her high school newspaper, offer practical and worthwhile advice and encouragement for young writers seeking to have their work published as well as for parents and teachers who want to support and encourage those young writers. As stated in the Introduction, this book explains "how to go about writing something that is worthy of being published" and also explains the process of getting that work into print. Chapters range in focus from explaining the advantages of having work published, to finding ideas to write about, learning how to pitch those ideas, and finding appropriate markets. Everything from school newspapers, local and national newspapers, traditional and print-on-demand book publishers, blogs, and websites are explored. An annotated list of helpful Internet sites for young writers is included. In addition to their own experiences, the writers include some tips from other professionals and examples of successful queries and articles. One particularly effective example is the poem, "To Beach or Not to Beach," written by Elizabeth Harper.
