SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Harmonic Inc. (Nasdaq:HLIT), a leader in digital video compression and IP delivery systems, today extended its ProView(TM) line of professional receivers/decoders with dual channel high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) systems. The space-efficient, one rack-unit (1-RU) systems cost-effectively enable digital service acquisition, turnaround and monitoring. The new ProView PVR 1000 SD and PVR 8000 HD systems leverage the technology and expertise of Broadcast Technology Limited (BTL), a UK-based company acquired by Harmonic earlier in 2005.

With the increased distribution of video in a digital format, service providers need systems to receive, process and then redistribute content using satellite, terrestrial, cable, telco and wireless networks. In addition, they require systems to monitor the status and quality of the video as it is prepared for delivery to the next step within the content origination and delivery chain.

Harmonic addresses these needs with the ProView PVR 1000 and PVR 8000 series which simultaneously receives and decodes two channels. The PVR 1000 series also includes a transport stream descrambler that receives and descrambles two independent streams each containing up to 16 channels. These ProView systems can fit seamlessly into virtually any headend environment, irrespective of whether it includes other Harmonic systems.

The standards-based ProView family is MPEG-2 and DVB compliant ensuring interoperable solutions for applications such as digital turnaround; distribution in broadcast, cable, telecom and satellite networks; and decryption for transport stream re-multiplexing. The systems support DVB SimulCrypt and Multicrypt, offering multiple channel decryption up to the full incoming transport stream. The ProView product family supports a variety of front-end options -- QPSK, 8PSK, 16QAM, QAM, G.703, STM-1/OC-3, DS-3 -- and leading DVB conditional access systems.
