Harlequin releases ScriptWorks MicroRIP for low res color output.

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 28, 1995--Harlequin announced today at Seybold the release of ScriptWorks MicroRIP, a PostScript Level 2 language compatible interpreter targeted at the fast-growing low resolution digital color and large format printing markets.

Available only on an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  basis, ScriptWorks MicroRIP enables printer manufacturers to package a high performance software interpreter with a wide variety of low resolution color or monochrome output devices, including laser printers, dye sublimation printers, digital color copiers and printers, and large format color electrostatic plotters and ink jet printers.

"With the ScriptWorks MicroRIP, an OEM can bring a high quality printing solution to market in a very short time frame," said Jo Marks Jo Marks, Jonathan Oliver Marks, founded the software company Harlequin. He had worked at the University of Southampton in the Mathematics Department. External references

, president of Harlequin. "By getting to market more quickly, they'll have an advantage in the fast-growing, highly competitive digital and large format color markets," he added.

ScriptWorks MicroRIP is used to manage the PostScript workflow and controls output to the various devices through output plugins. OEMs receive a Developer's Kit which enables them to write device drivers for a wide range of printers such as the Hewlett-Packard DesignJet 650C, Encad NovaJet, Xerox Versatec electrostatic plotters, Xerox MajestiK Color Series, Canon Color Laser Copiers, and other popular color and monochrome output devices.

For the highest quality output at optimal speed, ScriptWorks MicroRIP includes Harlequin Dispersed Screening (HDS (Hitachi Data Systems, Santa Clara, CA, www.hds.com) A leading provider of high-end storage hardware, software and services. Part of the Information Systems & Telecommunications Division of Hitachi Ltd. ), Harlequin's patent-pending non-structured, or "FM," screening method. HDS is extremely flexible. The selection of various dot structures or "settings" tailor the screening to suit a system's requirements and output capabilities. One of these settings, HDS Super Fine, is specifically designed to produce high quality output on lower resolution devices with no performance penalty. Since the screening is part of the ripping process, HDS' integrated approach results in speed and performance gains over other FM and error diffusion Error diffusion is a type of halftoning in which the quantization residual is distributed to neighboring pixels which have not yet been processed. Its main use is to convert a multi-level image into a binary image, though it has other applications.  screening methods.

For color support, since the ScriptWorks MicroRIP is a full Level 2 RIP, any appropriate color rendering dictionary (CRD CRD
