An instrument for measuring the degree of hardness; especially, an instrument for testing the relative hardness of steel rails and the like. A, D and M, are said to be manufactured from high quality rubber, formulated for·mu·late tr.v. for·mu·lat·ed, for·mu·lat·ing, for·mu·lates 1. a. To state as or reduce to a formula. b. To express in systematic terms or concepts. c. to resist the aging effects on hardness by temperature and time. The test blocks are for use as a check to ensure that hardness testers of any manufacture are functioning properly and read correctly. Each set is supplied in a wooden box with a test certificate. Each block is identifiable with its hardness value written on the lid of the box. Test blocks are returned to the company every 12 months for re-calibration when a new test certificate is issued.
