Hardinge buys worldwide rights to Bridgeport.


Hardinge Hardinge may refer to:

 Inc. (Elmira Elmira (ĕlmī`rə), city (1990 pop. 33,724), seat of Chemung co., extreme S central N.Y., on the Chemung River; settled 1788, inc. 1864. , NY) has purchased the worldwide rights to the Bridgeport Bridgeport, city (1990 pop. 141,686), Fairfield co., SW Conn., on Long Island Sound; inc. 1836. Long a chief industrial city in Connecticut, it makes electrical appliances, transportation equipment, clothing, ammunition, metal products, wiring devices, machinery,  machinetool business.

Previously, Hardinge had purchased the rights to the Bridgeport knee-mill business and built these machines in Elmira. Purchase price of the worldwide rights was reported as $7.25 million.

The most recent purchase does not include the Bridgeport manufacturing facilities in Leicester Leicester (lĕs`tər), city (1991 pop. 324,394) and district, Leicestershire, central England. The city is connected by canals with the Trent River and London, and it is also a railway center. , England. Hardinge will manufacture the Bridgeport line in its existing Taiwan facility.
