Chamber action gets results

The Detroit Regional Chamber's involvement in the 2000 elections was critical to many races throughout Michigan. Here's a look at three key victories:

Action: The Chamber's Political Action Committee endorses Michigan Supreme Court The Michigan Supreme Court is the highest court in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is known as Michigan's "court of last resort" and consists of seven justices, who are elected to eight-year terms. Candidates are nominated by political parties and are elected on a nonpartisan ballot.  Justices Stephen Markman, Clifford Taylor and Robert Young.

Result: All three are returned to the state's highest court by comfortable margins.

Action: The Chamber's PAC II opposes Proposal 2, requiring a two-thirds majority vote in the legilature on any legislation that "intervenes" in a "municipal concern."

Result: Proposal 2 is rejected by over 70 percent of Michigan voters.

Action: The Chamber's PAC endorses business-friendly candidates for the state House of Representatives.

Result: A pro-business House is retained.
