:H) announced today the promotion of Anthony Lucki to president of the School Publishers division of its Harcourt Brace & Company publishing subsidiary. He has been the division's senior vice president and publisher since 1996.

Lucki will report to James P. Levy, president of Harcourt Brace's Education and Trade Group. "Tony Lucki has been an important member of the management team that has led the growth of Harcourt Brace School Publishers," Mr. Levy said. "We're fortunate to have executives of his caliber within our organization ready to assume increased responsibilities."

Mr. Lucki succeeds Samuel Gesumaria, who has served as head of Harcourt Brace School Publishers since 1993. Mr. Gesumaria has resigned to accept the position of president of The Hampton-Brown Company, a small educational publisher in Carmel, California that specializes in bilingual, ESL (1) An earlier family of client/server development tools for Windows and OS/2 from Ardent Software (formerly VMARK). It was originally developed by Easel Corporation, which was acquired by VMARK.  and supplemental materials. "Sam Gesumaria's professionalism and integrity have left an indelible mark on Harcourt Brace. We wish him well in his new endeavor," said Mr. Levy. Mr. Gesumaria said, "I am looking forward to my new challenges and am delighted that Tony Lucki has been named president of Harcourt Brace School Publishers. As publisher, he and his team were responsible for the two tremendously successful basal reading programs -- Treasury of Literature and Signatures -- which has formed the foundation of the elementary school division's excellent performances over the past five years."

Before being named senior vice president and publisher, Mr. Lucki served six years as senior vice president and editor-in-chief of the division's reading and language arts programs and directed the publication of Treasury of Literature and Signatures.
