Happenings at Board of Directors' December meeting.Following are some of the more significant actions and events that took place at the AICPA AICPA See American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Board of Directors' meeting Dec. 4-5, 2003: * Chairman of the Board Scott Voynich provided an update on his activities, including a concerted member outreach effort. He told board members that since the fall Council meeting, AICPA leadership has met with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy For the technique in nucleic acid amplification, see . The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) is an umbrella group for the 55 state boards that regulate the accountancy profession in the United States of America. , several state CPA (Computer Press Association, Landing, NJ) An earlier membership organization founded in 1983 that promoted excellence in computer journalism. Its annual awards honored outstanding examples in print, broadcast and electronic media. The CPA disbanded in 2000. societies, the International Federation of Accountants * Former Chair James Castellano was appointed to lead the new Private Companies Financial Reporting Task Force. The task force will analyze the issue of standards-setting for non-public companies and their accounting firms. * Upon recommendation from the Professional Ethics Executive Committee, the board approved both the PCAOB PCAOB Public Company Accounting Oversight Board and the SEC as qualified for the purposes of the AICPA's automatic sanctioning policy. That is, those organizations' disciplinary actions against an AICPA member will permit the Institute to take disciplinary action against that member without a hearing. * Progress with the Enhanced Business Reporting initiative was reported. A consortium approach involving those in the business community is being pursued. Other countries have shown support for the project as well. * The board approved the renaming and restructuring of the Consulting Services member section to the Business Valuation/Forensic and Litigation An action brought in court to enforce a particular right. The act or process of bringing a lawsuit in and of itself; a judicial contest; any dispute. When a person begins a civil lawsuit, the person enters into a process called litigation. The change takes effect this June. * Various other AICPA projects were discussed, such as the new CPA Ambassador and state society partnership pilot programs (The CPA Letter, Jan.), as well as student recruitment campaign efforts. Moreover, board members were told that conversion to a computer-based CPA Exam is on time, and that CPA2Biz was on target to meet its performance and financial goals this fiscal year. |
