Hanley Wood acquires "Professional Deck Builder and related expo.

Hanley Wood (Washington, D.C.) has acquired "Professional Deck Builder" magazine and DeckExpo from Dempsey Management Services (Snellville, GA). No terms of the deal were given.

"Professional Deck Builder" was launched in 1985 and is published six times a year for a controlled circulation of 26,500 deck, dock and railing contractors, distributors, dealers and suppliers. DeckExpo was launched in 2003 and attracts 1700 decking contractors. Hanley Wood said the magazine will become part of its Remodeling Group (Williston, VT) of publications, including "Journal of Light Construction" and "Coastal Contractor." The expo will become part of Hanley Wood Exhibitions (Dallas, TX).

Hanley Wood group publisher Rick Strachan said the acquired magazine "is the only trade publication exclusively dedicated to the deck, dock and railing industry and the products and advertisers complement our existing publications." Current related Hanley Wood events include the Remodeling Show, International Pool & Spa Expo and the four annual JLC Live events. Overall, Hanley Wood publishes 26 other magazines for the housing and construction industries, including such titles as "ProSales," "Residential Architect," "Concrete Construction" and "Builder."
