Accompanying the UN stamp series is the World Federation of UN Associations' first-day cover by award-winning UN photographer John Isaac. it depicts a three-month-old tiger hanging from a tree. The image, says Mr. Isaac, is symbolic of the plight of the endangered species of the world, many of which are "hanging by a thread". The final print of the first-day cover was done by image transfer from a black and white polaroid photograph to an art form. On 4 February, the UNPA released "A Universal World of Stamps-E.T. and the United Nations", a special album introducing the work of the UN and 16 UN topics, from the environment to the value of education, to young readers, and encouraging them to take up the hobby of stamp collecting. The album also celebrates the UN Year of the Family, as the importance of the family was an underlying theme of "E.T., the Extra-Terrestrial", one of the most popular movies ever made. It was made possible through the support of cinema director Steven Spielberg and Universal City Studios.
