1. The concealment or the screening of one sensory process or sensation by another.

2. An opaque covering used to camouflage the metal parts of a prosthesis.

DIRECTIONS

1 Divide into groups of four students.

2 Place one piece of masking tape on the floor. Then, place another piece of tape across the center of the piece on the floor, forming a cross.

3 Use a marker to label one end of the tape "front." Stand on the center of the cross and face the front. Label the side of the tape to your left "left," and the side to your right "right."

4 Have one student--the participant-stand on the center of the cross and face the front.

5 Have another student count to three. But instead of the word "three," the student will shout "left," "right," "knees," or "hands." Upon hearing the word, the participant Participant

should immediately jump up and move--in midair--according to the direction given:

* left: spin the body to face left

* right: spin the body to face right

* knees: tuck in the knees

* hands: raise both hands above the head

6 Using a data table, record the direction given and whether or not the participant succeeded in completing the move. (Example: If "right" was called out and the participant turned left, that was not a success.)

7 Repeat Steps 4 to 6 four more times. Each time, the caller Caller may refer to one of the following:
  • Caller (telecommunications), a party that originates a call
  • Caller (dancing), a person that calls dance figures in round dances and square dances
  • Caller to Islam, the Islamic equivalent of a Christian missionary
 can shout a different move.

8 Have the next participant repeat Steps 4 to 7. Repeat this step for each student in your group.

9 For 10 minutes, practice the moves by taking turns being the caller and the participant.

10 Then, repeat Steps 4 to 8 for a second reaction test.

1. As stated or indicated by; on the authority of: according to historians.

2. In keeping with: according to instructions.

3.
your data table, how did your results in the first set of tests compare with your results after practicing?

2 Which move seemed to be the hardest for your teammates to accomplish? Easiest? Can you think of a possible reason why?

ANSWERS

1. Usually, practicing the tricks helps increase reaction time So the results in the second test should be better than the results in the first test.

2. Answers will vary
