Handling conflict. (Letters).THANK YOU FOR THE NOVEMBER 2002 article [in Powerplay], "Has Your Workplace Become A Battlefield?" There are problems with my boss (a white male) and project manager (a white female). I had to take them aside and talk to them. They are out of control. They argue all the time in front of employees and it is always about nonsense. This week, I just had enough. We had a new person start on Monday and they started arguing. [So] I had to talk to them. [We possess conflicting styles:] They are both pit bulls; I am a roadrunner and an eagle. I am going to e-mail them the name of the book mentioned in the article [The Power of a Good Fight: How to Embrace Conflict to Drive Productivity, Creativity, and Innovation by Lynne Eisaguirre (Alpha Books, $24.95)]. BLACK ENTERPRISE has been a great part of my life. In fact, one of the reasons I moved to Georgia is because BE held a career conference here in 1995. I attended and had a great time. The weather was warm in Georgia, and I had to return to cold, 40-degrees-below-zero Minnesota, where I was living at the time. After receiving all of the encouragement from the conference, I quit my job, sold my furniture, and moved to "Hotlanta." Yvonne Abraham Ellenwood, Georgia yabraham@onebox.com |
